Gloden Globes (overview)

Photo : Style.com

Best dressed of the A-list:
Maggie Gilinghall wore a leopard print off the shoulder Lanvin - Stunning, Though i preferred the shorter sack-like version from the ready-to-wear show.
Caron Diaz wore a candy pink Chanel - A risky colour but such a fitting silhouette for her shape.
Jennifer Lopez in a gold Marchesa - Very reminiscent of her days a 'J-lo'
Ann Hathaway in a midnight navy Armani - Classic elegance, her new stylist Rachel Zoe definitely seems to be working her magic.
Angelina Jolie in a pale silver Versace - Given her style record this was disappointing , I would love to see her in a more exciting.
Kate Winslet in an embellished Yves Saint Laurent - Modern elegance at its best, Yves would would have been proud
Freida Pinto, a true winner in Christian Lacroix - I was not blown away though I believe that she's an incredibly elegant woman.

It was definitely a night of elegance, everyone seemed eager to do something different . This resulted in a variety of world class designers doing what they do best. Whether it was a billowing Marchesa gown o'r an elegant yet daring Dior by John Galliano, it seemed to be every ones night.

Christina Aguilera for Topshop ?

Photo: Style.com
There is buzz this week surrounding super- high- street store Topshop as we learn that r&b songstress Christina Aguilera may be the next media fad to design a self titled collection. The collection if created will model itself on Christina's personal wardrobe and will be the first to follow Kate Moss' that saw huge success worldwide. Business Mogul and owner of the Arcadia group Phillip Green has already admitted to Christina's recent visit to the Topshop head offices in London and that he is hoping to sign a deal in due time. However nothing has been confirmed, which made me wonder; is Christina really the right person for the job ? To me Topshop is strongly British store with a very British aesthetic, in fact Topshop being British is a huge reason for it's international success. Fashion conscious citizens worldwide flocked when they were given their first chance to see Topshop in all it's 'cheap yet chic glory' not to mention the Kate Moss collection that's sold astonishingly well. In fact, when Kate Moss for Topshop was confirmed i found myself thinking great, here's a British woman with a clearly distinctive style, designing a collection for young girls who have admired her for many years. The relationship, though a smart business decision seemed all so natural and saw great promise from day one. But among the murmurs Christina always seemed like a stupidly obvious choice (rumoured candidates include Cheryl Cole, Agyness Deyn and Leona Lewis). I am disappointed with the possible decision and i don't really feel that there needs be another celebrity collection period, to me it depreciates the value and paradox of Kate's collection for Topshop. Unlike Kate, Christina does not posses a unique sense of style and I believe that the decision (business wise) was made solely on Topshop's future move to the states in the summer. However, as per usual the subject if up for debate so feel free to comment.

2009 for IN-fashion

Photo: Style.com
2009 is set to be a eventful year for fashion with both menswear and womenswear shows scheduled at the helm of the year. Not to mention the award season that's given fashion some of its most memorable moments (who can forget the recent Marion Cotillard in a mermaid Jean Paul Gautier). This year expect great award season-moments from the always chic Cate Blanchett (who recently stunned in spring summer 09 Balenciaga) and Tilda Swinton (my favorite avant-garde clothes-horse). But with the credit crunch looming the world of fashion and retail is set to suffer, we have already seen various fashion heavyweights drop out of the coveted fashion week schedule (Marni Menswear, Vera Wang and Donna Karen). There will also be some major changes in the industry (no more Alessandra Facchinetti at Valentino and the return of former Chloe designer Pheobe Pilo at Celine). Get Ready, 2009 is set to be an interesting year.
